Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16), a former constitutional law professor at West Point, yesterday cosponsored a House resolution disapproving of President Obama’s recent appointments, which he made while Congress was not in recess.

“This is an unprecedented move by the President to circumvent Congress and impose his will on the American people,” Rooney said. “The President ignored not only centuries of precedent but the legal advice of his own Justice Department when making this blatant power grab.

“The United States is not a dictatorship or a monarchy. The time-tested system of checks and balances is critical to our democracy, but President Obama has made clear with these appointments that he considers advancing his radical agenda more important than upholding our Constitution.”

Rooney also signed a letter last week to the President opposing his appointments, writing that, “We stand committed to undoing the damage these appointments have done to our republic and expect that these appointments will be determined to be unconstitutional and invalidated by both the court and the American people.”
