Rooney: Obamacare Device Tax Would Cripple Florida Industry, Cost State Jobs
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) today issued the following statement on the Health Care Cost Reduction Act (H.R. 436), which the House is considering today. The bill would repeal the 2.3 percent excise tax on sales of medical devices included in Obamacare.
“We shouldn’t pay for Obamacare – which most Americans want repealed anyway – with a tax that’s going to drive up health care costs, stifle innovation, and cost us much-needed jobs,” Rooney said.
Florida is home to 528 medical device manufacturers, second-most in the nation, employing more than 20,000 people.
“Florida is one of the nation’s leaders in the medical device industry, and we will particularly hard-hit by President Obama’s tax on medical devices. The last thing our state can afford is a new tax that’s going to cripple our industry, drive our manufacturers out of business, and destroy jobs our state desperately needs.”
